PALESTINIAN RUNNERS
We’re delighted to have two runners joining us all the way from Tel Aviv and Bethlehem. Ameer, who is our very own Scholarship student, and Abd, who studies at Al Quds University, live only 48 miles away from each other but have never been able to run on the same land due to Israeli segregation of the Occupied Palestinian Territories. But that will change as they run side by side for the first time here in London!
Read their story below.
Ameer is 21 years old and is studying Economics and Business Management at Tel Aviv University. He is a keen runner and is in a running group called ‘Right to Movement’. He says “I will have the honour to join the Royal Parks Half Marathon. I run 11 km weekly and am very excited to try this interesting experience. It will be an unforgettable one”.
Abd is 19 years old and lives in Bethlehem in the West Bank. He is studying Physical Education at Al Quds University in the Abu Dis Campus. He started running from the age of 10 and has won several tournaments in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. He says “I will do my utmost in training to raise the profile of my name and the name of my country Palestine”.

Hassan says “I have been affiliated with supporting Galilee Foundation since it’s inception and am proud to continue my association as my number one priority in philanthropy has been providing education opportunities for young talented people who cannot otherwise afford quality education without Galilee’s assistance”.
POWER COUPLE
Husband and wife Adrian and Bonita will be both be running in our team this year.
Bonita was the youngest person to climb Mount Everest and Adrian was in Great Britain’s rock climbing team.
Adrian says “I am 38 years old I am a very keen rock-climber and runner. I have run the Royal Parks Half twice previously. I love the race so much as it takes in London’s most iconic sites. I am very happy to be able to support the Galilee Foundation’s work this time round”.

Bonita says “I’m 31, live in North West London and I have a 9 month old daughter, Lily. I am running this race with my husband, Adrian whilst mum looks after the baby 🙂 This will be my first foray into fitness after the birth of my daughter- so I’m apprehensive and excited! I used to be a mountaineer, and went on 5 Himalayan expeditions before becoming a mum. I’m really pleased to be supporting the Galilee Foundation and raising money for such an important cause”.

IMPRESSIVE WOMEN
Having never run a half marathon before but wanting to do it for Galilee Foundation… We’ll be cheering extra loud for them!
Charlene says: “When I saw the Galilee Foundation was putting a team together for the Royal Parks half marathon, I knew wanted to be a part of it. It’s a great cause, for disadvantaged Palestinian students, women and youth, and I thought I’d also get to run. So here I am hoping to ace my target. Please support in whatever way you can, big or small. Women are the pillars of society and children are the future”.

Dana says: “I will be going from zero to hero by running the Royal Parks Half Marathon to raise money and awareness for the Galilee Foundation. Having never run before – unless I’ve seen a ‘GATE CLOSING’ flashing sign… in-fact I usually come with an automatic disclaimer to every personal trainer I’ve ever had that I CANNOT run, this is truly a challenge for me but one which I am excited to face for a worthy cause”.
Nayrouz says: “I am so nervous, but very excited too – cant think of a better way to shift gear and get fit than for Galilee”.

FRIENDS THAT RUN TOGETHER STICK TOGETHER
Tom and Jukka have promised to run side by side.
Thomas says: “I am running because I have spent 25 years in the military and have been to many countries around the world that do not have the advantages that we take for granted concerning education and employment. To not have the resources to achieve ones potential must be soul destroying and if I can highlight this issue and assist in anyway, I will”.

Jukka says: “I have been actively running for number of years as a hobby and doing something I like for such a good cause I felt it wasn’t to be missed. This will great opportunity to support Galilee Foundation which has been providing education and opportunities for young talented people”.
INSPIRATIONAL MESSAGES
Hadil says: “This is cause is close to my heart. I grew up in the West Bank, I did my first degree in Jerusalem and I was lucky enough to get a sponsorship for higher education in London so this charity is perfect for me. I want to support the education of young, talented Palestinians. Education is key in lifting people out of poverty and giving them hope for a better future”.
Jacques says: “I am very lucky to be living the life that I do in a place that gives me so much freedom and opportunity. It’s great to be able to help those who are less fortunate that me and whose lives can be a daily struggle. #givesomethingback. The fact that I love exercise and am able to do that while raising money is an added bonus”.
