What’s your name and what are you studying?
My name is amir Masarweh , I’m a third year student majoring in computer science at the Technion institute of technology.
What’s your age?
I am 22 years of age.
Can you tell us a little bit about your background and life?
I am a citizen of Haifa city, grew up in a small standard family , always wanting to be a game designer and programmer, although I am a main stream muslim myself, I grew up in a catholic monastery, it being also the place I studied until the age of 7, so I have had quite a mixed and a knowledgeable ethnic background that later helped me cope in life mainly as an Arab , now I’m a full time student aiming to complete my bachelors degree and enjoying the fun work later on (I hope 😊).
How did you end up applying for the Galilee scholarship program?
During my first year in University I began searching for scholarships that would come to help fund my education, it was then that I found the Arab Culture Association which I enrolled in at the time .
Would you have been able to afford going to university if it was not for this scholarship?
It would certainly make it a lot more difficult without it, knowing that I don’t have to work as a student in order to comfortably be able to afford university tuition.
What for you are the key benefits of the program?
A lot more than simple words can explain, there I found a second family, brothers and sisters that I enjoyed every bit of time knowing them , learning from them.
Plus, adding in all the knowledge I gained there not only about me as an Arab living in this state (what it really meant, what effects it had on me, and what we could do to try and make it a better place) but overall as a human being , it’s an experience I would cherish in all my time.
What are the biggest challenges you face in your day-to-day studies?
Mainly language, ethnic differences . Racism is usually not the most prominent thing you see mainly because The Technion institution is very difficult and lets you forget all about that and is solely focused on learning and studying , but it most certainly exists .
What are your goals in life and what would you like to do after your studies?
As I said earlier , my goal in life is to be a game programmer and I would like to proceed towards this goal later on after finishing my studies.
What do you consider to be your greatest achievement to date?
Being able to study in such a high status and well known university , but ultimately in spite of all the hardships and hard times I had came through in life, I still held on to be a kind, well mannered ,decent human being .
What has been the most significant change in your life since participating in the Scholarship Programme?
Gaining an extra trust worthy, loving family .
Tell us why you consider this change to be the most significant?
Because my family is small and quite a broken one .
Finally…. tell us your favourites:
Book: Tower of god.
Film: Spirited away.
Band/artist: Sia
