Sunday the 8th of October, saw us gather in London to support our runners, Team Galilee, in this year’s Royal Parks Half Marathon, in Central London. There were clear skies overhead but a heaviness in our hearts, with the situation developing in Gaza and more and more devastating news stories breaking.
We set up a stall in Hyde Park, next to the starting line, with our Palestinian banners and Galilee merchandise and spoke to members of the public, interested in learning more about the work that we do. We then set out to cheer our runners over the finishing line and provide them with post run refreshments.
All of the team completed the race, one of whom, based in Scotland had never ran in such in un-seasonally hot weather and another, Ameera had just come back from a long haul flight. So overall it was a huge achievement for our team and we are immensely proud and grateful to them all.
As it stands, we have reached our £20,000 target and we now look ahead to recruiting more runners to run future 10ks, marathons and half marathons in London as part of Team Galilee, or remotely in other parts of the world. It’s incredibly easy to get involved; we will buy you a place in a race of your choice, send you an official Galilee running vest and then support you in all your fundraising efforts.
Here, on what was a sad day under painful circumstances, our runners and staff came together to raise money for our cause. Homes may be destroyed and communities torn apart but education as a right can never be taken away.
